The Collage

Translating this poem into a picture, I collect images that seem compelling, evocative and relevant. I arrange them such that each relates to and dialogues with pieces around them as well as with the whole. Never having made this process explicit before, I realize that perhaps that is how we attempt to arrange and insinuate ourselves in our clans, communities and worlds. Eventually, I enhance and unify the composition with paint, markers and scraps of paper. I am struck by how the creation of a gifted poet inspires my gift to create, albeit in another mode. In this way our gifts ripple, entice, inspire and welcome the gifts of others.
